Male pattern baldness is not constant but occurs in ‘fits and bursts’. Male hair loss can begin at any age and can continue for 10 to 40 years. The proportion of men with male pattern hair loss roughly corresponds with age – at age 30 about 30% have signs of hair loss – at 50 about 50% show signs.

Male pattern hair loss (MPHL) scientifically known as androgenetic alopecia, is the most common form of hair loss in men. MPHL represents close to 95% of all hair loss experienced by men. This progressive loss of hair eventually results in the thinning and/or loss of hair at the front or top of the scalp. Hairs tend to miniaturize or downsize in these areas.

As many as 50% of men are affected by MPHL by age 50. Hair loss can begin anytime after puberty, but most commonly begins among men in their mid-twenties.

Hair loss in MPHL is progressive and follows a predictable pattern. During the first stage of hair loss, hair usually recedes from the forehead, eventually forming an “M” shape. Other areas such as the crown may subsequently thin out. There is a classification system which illustrates the standard assessment scale used to determine the stages of hair loss. Male pattern hair loss is caused by genetic and hormonal factors. The genetics can be inherited from either the maternal or paternal sides of the family. Male hormones, known as androgens, also play an important role. Specifically, the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), can cause progressive miniaturization of the hairs on site – specific areas of the scalp.

Treatments available for MPHL are topical minoxidil solution (Rogaine®), oral finasteride (Propecia®) and hair transplantation.

Low level laser therapy treatments use a very low energy light and use the photobiotherapy principle. The cells absorb the light and heal themselves. The laser penetrates the tissues of the scalp which stimulates the micro-circulation of the blood supply. It supports cell metabolism and synthesizes protein. This process is believed to break down DHT-dihydrotestosterone, a male hormone that causes hairloss.

There are three components to laser treatments. Photo bio-stimulation changes the light energy from the laser into cellular energy. As a result the cells can take in nutrients and get rid of waste that much quicker. Circulation is the process of increasing the blood and lymph circulation using vasodilatation. Month One

In the first month, you may begin to notice some shedding of fine hairs. Don’t be alarmed or worry, this just means the laser is working.

Every hair has a 4 stage cycle of growth and shedding that it naturally goes through while it is still active. The last of these stages is where the hair falls out. It is then soon followed by a new hair emerging from the follicle.

If you see more shedding than usual, be encouraged. It’s a good sign. You may or may not see the thicker hair yet, but you’ll know the laser is stimulating the natural cycle of the hairs that were in the last stage. This will soon be followed by more and thicker hair.

Month two

You may still see some shedding, but by the middle of this month, this will probably be coming to an end.

By now you may start to notice some thicker hairs, and a fuller head of hair.

This is around the time people start to get really excited. It’s usually quite a relief to know that you can handle the problem and that you have a permanent, safe answer.

Month three

At this point you should see some thickening. Continue using the Super Grow Super 50. The laser hair therapy is bringing back hairs that had started to fall into inactivity.

Month four

In the fourth month you should be seeing noticeably thicker, fuller hair.

Months five and on
